Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s media company, pgLang, has teamed up with tech company Light to produce a limited edition “Light Phone.” This unique device offers a minimalist approach to mobile communication and is set to be available for purchase on pgLang’s main website starting November 2. Only 250 units of this exclusive phone will be up for grabs.
The Light Phone concept isn’t entirely new though. The Light Phone II was launched back in 2018. The company designed designed the device for individuals who want to break free from the overwhelming digital lifestyle. “It has a few essential tools, a thoughtful interface, and a black and white matt display.” said the company regarding the previous Light Phone II.

This pgLang collaborated limited edition Light Phone runs on LightOS, a simplified Android-based software, focusing solely on essential functions like phone calls, texts, contacts, and alarms.
One notable aspect of the Light Phone is its e-ink display. Unlike the vibrant OLED or AMOLED displays found in most Android phones, the e-ink screen is reminiscent of eReaders. It provides a more relaxed and less distracting visual experience, aligning perfectly with the phone’s minimalist philosophy.
The pgLang Light Phone bears a striking resemblance to the Light Phone 2, suggesting that the two devices will share core features. You won’t find games, social media apps, email clients, or news apps on these phones, reports Android Central. The absence of eye-catching colors and web browsing capabilities further reinforces the commitment to simplicity. Although, not having access to the internet in an Android feels like a bit too much.
pgLang adds a new look to the successor
In addition to the familiar Light Phone II features, the pgLang edition introduces a fresh light blue hue. While the video teaser by pgLang offers only a brief glimpse, it’s likely that pgLang’s unique artistic touch will set this limited edition a little bit apart.
