Wear OS 4 is coming to the original Pixel Watch today with the update now beginning to roll out to Android users who have the device. Wear OS 4 has been around in some form for months with it being available on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch smartwatches. It also came on the Pixel Watch 2 out of the box when the device launched earlier this month.

But users of Google’s first Pixel Watch no doubt sat and wondered when their device would get the Wear OS 4 update as well. Turns out that the wait wasn’t too long and that’s as to be expected. It is still a Pixel device after all. And Google is never really one to leave its own hardware languishing on old software.

In addition to the update beginning to roll out to users, the new software comes with a bunch of new features. Not the least of which is the now much easier transfer process. Specifically, transferring your watch to a new Pixel phone without a factory reset. Although factory resetting a watch isn’t a long process, it did make for a more time consuming setup.

But Wear OS 4 changes all that and transfers not only the watch connection, but all your apps and settings too.

Wear OS 4 will come to all Pixel Watch users over the coming weeks

As you can probably guess, not all users will see the update today. Google has confirmed (via Mashaal Rahman) that the update starts today. But also clarifies that it will continue to hit devices over the coming weeks in phases. When you get the update exactly can be impacted by your carrier.

As for other new features and changes, users can expect improvements to battery life and performance, as well as bug fixes and actual new features. One of the new changes is an improved backup and restore option. Allowing you to save a backup of your old Pixel Watch data and import it to a new watch. Say a Pixel Watch 2.

Pixel Watch users also get the brand-new safety features including Safety Check, Emergency Sharing, and the Emergency Information. Additionally, Text-to-Speech now works faster with the new engine and Google says users get a more reliable experience with it on the watch. The Google Calendar app is present in the update too, which goes perfectly with the new and improved notifications. If you have an original Pixel Watch, start checking to see if there’s an update available. Because it just might show up today.
