Starfield finally has DLSS support for NVIDIA GPUs after its most recent update. Bringing enhanced performance and a few new features to players who use a compatible NVIDIA GPU.

Starfield officially launched back in the beginning of September to much fanfare. But as much fun as the game has been, it was missing a few enhancements for NVIDIA users. The game only launched with support for AMD’s FSR and related performance and graphical boosters. This left those with NVIDIA-based PCs behind a little bit. While the game still runs great on an NVIDIA PC, it was clear that there was room for improvement.

Bethesda did eventually acknowledge this and confirmed better NVIDIA support would be coming in a later update. But until that time it was left up to the mod community to provide solutions to NVIDIA users that could help enhance their games. Specifically for things like NVIDIA DLSS and Frame Generation. There were some slight issues with these mods of course and some players simply prefer not to have to mess around with game files. Thankfully that’s no longer needed. As Bethesda rolled out update 1.8.86 this week and it adds everything NVIDIA users have been waiting for.

Starfield now has support for DLSS, Frame Generation, and more

Those with an NVIDIA graphics card should notice a substantial improvement in gameplay performance following the installation of this update. As it includes support for NVIDIA DLSS, Reflex Low Latency, Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing, and DLSS Frame Generation. All things which can help boost your game to look better and run smoother.

While I haven’t tested this update myself yet, these features make a pretty big difference in games like Cyberpunk 2077. So their likely to make a dent here too. And if you haven’t updated the game yet, you should do it when you can or at least before you pop into the game next.

Additionally this update adds in some new gameplay quality of life tweaks. Specifically the ability for players to eat and consume food and drinks they find while exploring. Previously you had to put food and drinks in your inventory before you could consume them. But that could very quickly fill up your inventory. Now you can just eat stuff as you find it. If you want to. In terms of new features this is really all that’s changed. However Bethesda did provide quite a few fixes and improvements as well.

Stability and performance have both been improved while fixing a number of bugs. Such as one “rare” issue that could cause your home ship to be lost. You can read the full patch notes for the update in Bethesda’s official post.
